Biology is a two semester course. It is designed to give you a glimpse of the following topics: Ecology, Evolution, Cell Biology, Genetics and Physiology. The main goal of Biology is to provide the framework for you to think and write like a scientist and to be able to carryout your own investigations and answer your own questions.
In Biology we will practice:
  1. using appropriate tools and technology (microscope, glassware, measurement materials etc)
  2. reading, interpreting, analyzing and displaying data/results.
  3. identifying and communicating sources of error and inconsistent results
  4. formulating explanations by using evidence (writing conclusions)
  5. recognizing the limitations of models and theories

Course Outline:

  • Activities are usually performed within 1-2 class periods and are focused on gathering, analyzing, displaying and interpreting data.
  • Labs can last up to 2 weeks and follow the Scientific Method. Students will be required to turn in a formal lab report with error analysis and/or a written reflection of the lab performed.
  • Case Studies are implemented to increase comprehension of topics and themes, apply critical thinking skills, promote collaboration and enhance literacy skills.
